Inspired by 90s box-sets and early 2000s nostalgia, SLM: The Complete Flex Season is a debut project featuring 11 full-length tracks, alongside two skits. This project pays homage to the golden era of music videos that defined those decades, repackaged with a touch of millennial flair. Positioned to be listened to in chronological order, the first half of the project features impactful, up-tempo beats - from the hard-hitting ‘SLMtroduction’, to the confidence boosting duo ‘Pony’ and ‘Flex’, cascading through to the Latin-infused party anthem ‘Theme Song’. Midway through, following ‘Kween’s Speech’, we meet the candid ‘M.O.E.’, and begin to arrive at the album’s denouement - with the last 4 tracks showcasing SLM’s smoother, and more intimate, R&B side. From its deeply saturated album art, down to its carefully curated storytelling, this album touches upon a variety of subject matters close to SLM’s heart - from growing up as a young Black woman in the hip-hop scene to dealing with modern love and relationships, and building up confidence all along the way. With this body of work, SLM announces her arrival to the world stage, her mic firmly planted in her newfound sonic identity.
